Someone Won't Be Coming Back: Three Chapbooks of Poetry Exploring Death, Religion, and Divorce is a creative dissertation comprised of three chapbooks of poetry. Each chapbook consists of original poetry submitted by the author. His Story, The Wages, and Asphalt are collections of poetry that deal largely with the theme of absence. His Story is an attempt to discover a history for a grandfather after his death. The Wages is an attempt to understand the biblical passage from Romans 6:23, "the wages of sin is death," when there is an ever present absence of God. Many of the poems from Asphalt are written as responses to the aftermath of divorce through the perspective of a father having to say goodbye to his kids. These poems are meant to remind the reader that it is things humans take for granted that should be celebrated most, but it is the things humans take for granted that seem to be absent when they need them most. Even though the reader may find little solace and redemption in these poems, the poet offers salvation by reminding readers that it is the smallest things that have the greatest presence.

Murder strikes thrice in these three baffling mysteries of crime and detection. First, Rex Stout’s great detective, Nero Wolfe, develops an appetite for the sweet taste of revenge when someone slips something most foul into his lunch—in a case motivated by the most “alimentary” of passions. Then, a couturier’s beautiful sister uses Archie Goodwin, Wolfe’s man about town, as her ready-made alibi—and maybe her fall guy—unless Wolfe can spot the loose ends in a nearly seamless crime. Finally, Wolfe has a run-in with the law after a mysterious old woman leaves a package at the detective’s West Thirty-fifth Street brownstone that pits him against a cunning criminal—and the U.S. federal government.

One of the most remarkable philosophical works of the nineteenth century, The Sickness Unto Death is also famed for the depth and acuity of its modern psychological insights. Writing under the pseudonym Anti-Climacus, Kierkegaard explores the concept of 'despair', alerting readers to the diversity of ways in which they may be described as living in this state of bleak abandonment - including some that may seem just the opposite - and offering a much-discussed formula for the eradication of despair. With its penetrating account of the self, this late work by Kierkegaard was hugely influential upon twentieth-century philosophers including Karl Jaspers, Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus. The Sickness unto Death can be regarded as one of the key works of theistic existentialist thought - a brilliant and revelatory answer to one man's struggle to fill the spiritual void.
